To produce a publication inspired by a color.
The color: Green
The color: Green
Design SolutionThe book is a collaborative project with six other designers. Each designer had 16 pages with a representative color that was used to underpin the concept for the design.
The concept of my design was ‘growth’, which derived from the color green. Not only did the concept underpin the content and the grid systems of the spreads, but it was also embodied throughout my editorial process.

All of the pictures used in the book were sourced from the NYPL Pictures Collection. It started with finding keywords from their folder collection that resonate with growth, such as farms - seed, algae, autumn, babies, baking, and more. Furthermore, four themes were formed based on the found keywords, which are the growth of trees, birds, humans, and buildings/architecture. These words have evolved throughout the process of collecting pictures.
Moreover, the grid system itself started from a really closely knitted column and gutter that slowly got bigger into one column for the whole spread—accompanied by the collection of pictures that show growth throughout the pages, starting from the unborn to more mature representatives for each theme.
